SUNNY - BOOK REVIEW: "Night's Honor" by Thea Harrison

Night's Honor
by Thea Harrison
BOOK 7 in the Elder Races Series

On the run from her former employer, Tess knows that she’s vulnerable on her own amongst the Elder Races. That’s why she decides to audition to become the human attendant of a powerful Vampyre of the Nightkind demesne. But while her position affords her the safety she seeks, her protector turns out to be more than she bargained for.

The right-hand man of the Nightkind King, Xavier del Torro is both terrifying and alluring. While his true nature frightens Tess, she can’t ignore the appeal of his innate sense of integrity and self-restraint. Thrown into Xavier’s world, Tess must quickly learn to navigate the dangers—both to her life and to her heart. But the biggest threat comes from her own past….

I love this book. It shows Thea Harrison's versatility as a writer. Different in tone and pace than the last book, Kinked, I like the quiet contrast to Aryal and Quentin's story. There are less action sequences, but I really, really enjoy the evolution of the relationship between Tess and Xavier. I am especially drawn to Tess. She's quirky, spirited, and I find her admirable in trying to overcome her prejudices. I guess it doesn't hurt that she gets to work for one the most honorable vampires around.

Not since Serpent's Kiss have we gotten this deep into the Vampyre demesne. I enjoyed delving into this group of the Elder Races. We learn a more about the functions of humans and vampires, the politics, and the history. The author continues to enrich her Elder Races tapestry with this addition. The story is vibrant and rich. Beautiful.

If you are a fan of the Elder Races series, but even if you are not, this book is NOT TO BE MISSED.
